Eidul Adha or Hari Raya Haji in Bahasa Malaysia, is a celebration for Muslims to commemorate the sacrifices made by the Prophet Ibrahim A.S for his family, more importantly his son, Prophet Ismail A.S. It is also to determine his faith, obedience and willingness in following the commandments of Allah S.W.T.

In Malaysia, Eidul Adha is a national celebration where it is a public holiday and Muslims visit mosques to perform a special prayer followed by summon and visiting family in the remembrance of this holy day.

In Liverpool, NOVAS CUC has been grateful to let Malay Speaking Circle (MSC) to hold an event on Eidul Adha celebration. The event held on 12^th December 2008 attended by around 100 participants showed the anticipation of MSC members towards the celebration.

The program started with a screening of an Indonesian movie, titled “Kun-Fayakun” at 12.30pm. In Arabic, it means the commands/ act of Allah S.W.T in manifesting, existing or being of a creation, in an instance. The movie is about a fathers’ sacrifices to provide food and shelter for his family despite the hardship they are facing, without neglecting the commandments of Allah S.W.T e.g. prayers, recitation of the Holy Quran and being grateful of the situation. The movie brought tears to many as they appreciate what Allah S.W.T has given them.

In between of the screening, participants were invited for a small feast prepared by the few people who contributed during the slaughtering. Participants were also invited for Zuhr and Asr prayers as the time emerged. Before ending the program, a short discussion on Eidul Adha was held to remind and bring participants towards the greatness of Islam, its virtues and importance of practicing the commands of Allah S.W.T.
